As part of his Soundvoice research, Lieven Martens will present an interactive sound installation, The Soundscape Generator<\/a>, at Het Bos on February 4th. He will also accompany two listening walks<\/a> through Antwerp and give a brief presentation of his research to the public. To finish the evening, he has invited composer Heleen Van Haegenborgh for a concert.<\/p>\n

Symphony play-along, revisited<\/strong><\/p>\n

This concert is a spin-off of Symphony for one hundred citizens and a traffic light<\/em><\/a>, a large-scale symphony of everyday urban sounds composed by Heleen Van Haegenborgh together with\/and based on an idea by artist Thomas Verstraeten. One hundred city residents from all corners of Antwerp each played their own \u201cinstrument\u201d. On stage there were no violins, woodwinds or percussion instruments, but cars with growling engines, a sunny terrace with clinking glasses, barking dogs, a wheeled suitcase sliding over cobblestones, a singing street guitarist, a road worker with a jackhammer, a clock striking 12, birds chirping, etc.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

To inaugurate the soundscape generator installation, Heleen Van Haegenborgh is bringing this work back to life in an adapted version. She is working with the recordings of the premiere at De Singel and adding synths and electronics. She will be accompanied live by Saori Miraku, whom she met through Musarc, a London choir with which Heleen has been working closely for years. Saori is classically trained and active in the London improvisation scene as a pianist, composer, improviser and performer.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Heleen Van Haegenborgh<\/strong> start\u00aded her career as a pianist, spe\u00adcialised in con\u00adtem\u00adpo\u00adrary music and extend\u00aded tech\u00adniques. Over the last years, she\u2019s very active as a com\u00adpos\u00ader with com\u00admis\u00adsions in the fields of con\u00adtem\u00adpo\u00adrary music, old music, the\u00adater, visu\u00adal arts and jazz. In Belgium, she worked close\u00adly togeth\u00ader and made sev\u00ader\u00adal records with visu\u00adal artists and musi\u00adcians with oth\u00ader back\u00adgrounds: jazz, elec\u00adtron\u00adics, Japanese music, free jazz,\u2026She is seen as a musi\u00adcian who con\u00adnects the cir\u00adcuits of con\u00adtem\u00adpo\u00adrary clas\u00adsi\u00adcal music, free impro and exper\u00adi\u00admen\u00adtal underground.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n
