Concert Arts2

Reservations can be made from January 6th

The students and teachers of the electroacoustic section of Arts2 invite you to an acousmatic concert. This concert will be an opportunity for students to present their work on the acousmonium, a tool for spatialising sound. Half of the programme will consist of their own pieces, and half of pieces from the acousmatic repertoire — a repertoire that, since the beginnings of Musique Concrète (1948) to the present day, has continued to grow year after year with new works.

Acousmatic is in fact almost synonymous with electroacoustic. It is a rare word in the language which, precisely, refers to a sound whose source cannot be seen — this is the situation in which loudspeakers now place us on a daily basis… It has therefore been taken up by certain electroacousticians, those for whom the essential part of the compositional process is based on listening and working on the listening of sounds fixed on a medium (magnetic tape in the past, computer memory today). The purpose of the composition is the concert ; that is to say, the reproduction of musical works on an Acousmonium.

An acousmonium is a system of loudspeakers distributed throughout the concert hall. The one used for this concert will consist of around thirty channels of different sizes, frequency responses and orientations. The concert is the moment when the pieces are brought to life in space, which can have several meanings: kinetic movements of sounds in space, the deepening of space (topological differentiations according to registers) that can lead to an almost tactile and encompassing sound perception.
