~ max. 12 p. ~

in collaboration with Grambacht

This workshop will focus on constructing simple motorized objects that generate sound and movement, and exploring their behaviour as semi-autonomous performers. Through hands-on experimentation, participants will learn about different types of motors, techniques of their preparation, and find out how to approach the objects as actors. Everyone, regardless of prior knowledge, is welcome to join!

Maryia Kamarova’s practice is situated at the intersection of performing arts, scenography, sound and installation art. She is interested in creating spatial settings that foster a sense of curiosity and attention toward everydayness. By misplacing and adjusting commonplace objects and technology, her works emphasize the creative potential of nonhuman worlds. By staging and repurposing commonplace objects and technology, Kamarova’s works emphasize material agency and creative capacities of the nonhuman world. She continuously develops autonomous electro-acoustic objects, assembling found materials with analogue electronics. Taking on a role of facilitator, she then lets them temporarily inhabit the sites of performances and installations. She performed internationally in Europe and overseas at Archipel, Rewire, Reveil, Sonic Acts, Lisboa Soa and STUK, among others. She is a co-founder of PYL collective and is a member of the Q-O2 art team in Brussels.
