Every day, we are immersed in sounds involuntarily: traffic, construction sites, air conditioners, sirens… But what if you could help decide the soundtrack of your living environment? What if a square could sound the way you want it to?
Exterioor focuses on auditory democracy. Using De Zwerm, a portable speaker system, we explore the sounds we would like to live with. In this participatory workshop, we create a composition for a square by assigning sounds to speakers, which we then place strategically in the space – from sounds we are missing to a new sonic reality. What can already be heard, and what would you like to add? The result of this process is a collaborative sound design in which we all want to live together. In this way, public space becomes a place that truly belongs to us.

aifoon is a Ghent-based listening arts organisation. In a world where the visual predominates, aifoon creates special listening experiences. Since 2006, the organisation has been building a richer and more conscious listening culture by sharing its love, fascination and knowledge of sound. Sound is more than what happens in the background; it is rich, layered and dynamic. Our ears pick up stories that we cannot always see with our eyes. At aifoon, you discover these hidden layers of sound through artistic research, dialogue and participation. For aifoon, listening is a critical and co-creative means towards artistic, social and cultural dialogue.
