The aim of this workshop is to raise participants’ awareness of the noise levels to which we are exposed on a daily basis when listening to music on our personal devices.
The workshop takes place in three main parts:
- A theoretical part covering how the human ear works, the basics of acoustics and the general principles of sound measurement.
- A practical part, during which participants will carry out sound level measurements under different conditions (types of headphones, environments, musical styles, etc.) in order to observe possible variations in listening levels.
- A chapter on analysis and prevention, divided into two parts:
- Analysis of the data collected, correlating it with the parameters tested, and explanation of the phenomena observed.
- A discussion on the prevention of hearing risks associated with listening to headphones, but also more broadly with exposure to sound in everyday life.

Augustin Pitrebois is a sound engineer specialising in jazz and world music, both live and in the studio. With more than twenty albums to his credit, he has built a reputation among the younger generation of musicians for his ability to faithfully reproduce the richness of instrumental timbres and the breathing of acoustic ensembles. His practice is characterised by great musical sensitivity and a rigorous technical approach: choosing the right microphones, managing space and dynamics, and striking a balance between analogue and digital precision.
