Airchoirs (Dirge for Coded Organ Pipes)

The Airchoirs are a series of sound installations combining audio and textiles. Several inflatables acting as a choir play a fully programmed composition on organ pipes. The listener is immersed in a soundscape of long, slow sounds and rhythms that we also find in both drone and Gregorian music.

Different resonances, enharmonics, notes occur and evolve into chords. Interferences arise between the organ pipes. Vibrations and beating waves are created by how certain frequencies of the organ pipes influence each other. This way the constantly rising and falling, almost breathing inflatables interact with each other.

The sound of the composition is different depending on the position of the visitor and the location in which the installation is located.
